Wilfried Gnonto simply cannot be sold at any price by Leeds United in the final embers of the transfer window.

Daniel Farke and the club had no plans on selling the young winger at this stage of the market anyway, but that may also have been the case for Georginio Rutter or any other high-profile name who has left Elland Road.

The German undoubtedly expected players to leave, but Gnonto must stay whatever happens now, as an update has been issued on Dan James’ confirmed absence against Hull City.

The Whites boss revealed at a news conference, as revealed by the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Joe Donnohue on X (29 August) “We are sadly also without James, minor hamstring problem. He will not travel to join the Wales squad. Hope to have him back for Burnley.”

Leeds United could do with no more outgoings

Whilst it is of paramount importance the club keep hold of Gnonto – even as a central player as Farke efficiently utilised him against Sheffield Wednesday – they could really do without losing any first-team players.

Largie Ramazani and Manor Solomon will certainly provide a boost, and they are expected to play a part for the first time against Hull this weekend.

But there are question marks hanging over other players, with Max Wober looking as likely as anyone to move on – Borussia Monchengladbach are chasing the defender on a permanent deal following last season’s loan [Bild, 29 August].

Farke and the club will be hoping to add to the current total of 21 first-team players inside the building, with Japan international midfielder Ao Tanaka expected to be a coup, and Swiss winger Isaac Schmidt also on the cards [Corner Magazine, 29 August].

It promises to be a chaotically busy final two days of the window in West Yorkshire.

In other Leeds news, the club have responded to a report concerning an exit for Joel Piroe.
