BREAKING NEWS:Leeds united confirm the suspension of head coach…
Dom Howson believes Patrick Bamford’s wage demands could be a “stumbling block” in a potential Leeds United exit this January.
The 31-year-old has made just six Championship appearances this season, all coming off the bench, as he struggles to reach full fitness following another injury setback.
With Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe ahead of him in the pecking order, Daniel Farke may be able to deal without the striker, which could see Leeds seal an exit during the January transfer window.
Writing for LeedsLive [14 November], Howson said: “It has felt like Bamford has been playing catch-up since pre-season. Too often Bamford has looked off the pace and failed to make an impact as a substitute.
“He has a job on his hands reclaiming the No.9 spot, with Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe jumping ahead of him in the queue to lead the line. There have been numerous reports in recent weeks suggesting that Bamford could be allowed to leave in 2025.
“But a big stumbling block in any potential deal could be Bamford’s wage demands. He is believed to be one of the top earners at the club.”
Patrick Bamford to leave Leeds United in January?
Despite his injury struggles, there is no doubt that the striker’s knowledge and experience will be hugely appreciated by a rather young squad this season.
With the Whites looking to secure promotion back to the Premier League this term, Bamford has achieved that exact feat before and could be an important figure for the younger players.
Piroe and Joseph are, undoubtedly, better options in the final third than the 31-year-old, especially given his time spent on the treatment table, not just this season but also last season.
