Breaking News:Leeds transfer bombshell: Deadline day blow at Elland Road…
Leeds United will not be signing a new striker before Monday night’s transfer deadline, according to David Anderson.
The Daily Mirror’s northern football correspondent (3 February) posted on X to deliver the news that Southampton will not sanction a loan to Elland Road for Cameron Archer, who was Daniel Farke’s priority target.
Despite the Whites having blasted Cardiff City with a seven-goal haul on Saturday (1 February) to bring their Championship goals tally to 60, a striker was high on the West Yorkshire outfit’s radar but seemingly to no avail.
With less than two-and-a-half hours to go of the window, Anderson shared: “Southampton won’t loan Cameron Archer to Leeds despite the Yorkshire club’s strong interest.
“Looks like there will be no new striker for Leeds.”
Leeds United will not be signing Cameron Archer
Leeds United do not want to make the same mistakes as last year as Farke’s men slowed down at the vital period of the season, costing a place in the top two.
The Whites don’t need a striker – they have averaged two goals per Championship game in 2024-25 and have torn plenty of opponents apart at will.
However, Farke wants his side as strong as possible and maybe did not want to go through a winter window without a single arrival, which could be cited as an opportunity wasted if Leeds were to repeat their failure of last term.

Archer has proven himself to be a capable striker at a high standard, and has not always been in the Southampton side under Ivan Juric.
Leeds will now look ahead to the final 16 games of the season, including Wednesday’s next contest at Coventry City and a pantomime reunion with Frank Lampard (5 February).
In other Leeds news, Mateo Joseph was of heavy interest to a La Liga side on Deadline Day.
