Breaking News:Kris Boyd issues worst-ever Rangers claim amid damning SPFL form…
Kris Boyd has been left baffled by how Rangers perform in Europe as compared to the SPFL where they find themselves 11 points off the pace.
Reacting to the impressive win away at Nice on 28 November, Boyd cannot explain why there is such a disparity domestically and in the Europa League.
Philippe Clement’s side secured a memorable 4-1 victory against a side that was unbeaten at home this season and Gers now find themselves in the top 8 of the league standings in Europe.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun (29 November), Boyd said: “Rangers in Europe on Thursday nights, and Rangers back home at weekends. Don’t ask me to explain why there’s such a difference.
“It would be easier to crack the Enigma code. And make no mistake, this team of Phillipe Clement’s is the ultimate enigma for Gers fans.
“They were terrific in Nice on Thursday night. A 4-1 win against a side that hadn’t lost at home all season. A team currently sitting fifth in France’s Ligue 1.
“It’s incredible to think of the performance they put in, especially if you contrast it to the drab draw with Dundee United at Ibrox last Saturday.
“I was at Ibrox and it was arguably as bad as I’ve seen. The first 45 minutes might have been the worst I’ve ever witnessed there. And, trust me, I’ve been involved in a few bad ones.”
Rangers mainly thrive as underdogs in Europe
The European underdog role benefits this side under Clement by allowing them to exploit counter-attacking opportunities against teams like Nice, where they can leverage speed and tactical discipline to capitalise on space.
This approach, however, does not translate as effectively in the SPFL, where teams might adopt a more defensive posture, sitting deep and reducing the space for counter-attacks.
