BREAKING NEWS;Keith Wyness announces the departure of Michael Keane few minutes ago..
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Michael Keane could now depart following the arrival of Jake O’Brien.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Toffees also need to add more full-back cover in the remainder of the summer window.
Everton confirmed the capture of O’Brien on Tuesday (30 July) – with the 23-year-old signing a four-year deal on Merseyside.
Lyon have revealed that the Toffees paid £16.5million to land the ex-Crystal Palace ace, while the French club will also be due a 10% sell-on fee.
The Republic of Ireland international became a fixture in Ligue 1 last term and has now earned a Premier League move.
Keane, 31, has less than 12 months to run on his deal at Everton and featured sparingly in the 2023-24 campaign.

Wyness insisted he has been “pleasantly surprised” by the business from the Toffees so far this summer.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “We needed the cover at the back.
“I think we needed to make sure we have three or four top centre-backs.
“Michael Keane may now depart as well.
“We also now need to bring some more full-back cover in, so I’m expecting defence to be the focus for the rest of this window.
“I’ve been pleasantly surprised with this window from Everton. We’ve been pretty active.
“But it’s not finished yet – so we’ve got to see if we can hold on to Branthwaite and Calvert-Lewin.
“Those are the two big question marks.
“Overall, it’s so far – so good.”
