Everton responded to their late defeat at Southampton with an encouraging display to earn a share of the spoils against West Ham United but still had to rely on goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to make a string of impressive stops to earn a goalless draw at the London.

Following the respective sides’ losses the previous weekend, both managers Julen Lopetegui and Sean Dyche went into this fixture feeling the heat from sections of their club’s fanbases but it was the Blues who will take more encouragement from the performance and point going into the final international break of the calendar year.

After losing their opening four Premier League fixtures of the season, Dyche will surely point to the fact that his side have now only been beaten in one of their last seven matches to move clear of the danger zone as the Friedkin Group close in on a takeover of the club.

Made five impressive stops to deny substitute Danny Ings twice late on, Guido Rodriguez from outside the area in the second half plus Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio in quick succession just before the break after been untested for most of the first half.

A positive display pushing forward from the veteran, continued his recent good form, getting up the line while operating at the back in a typically wily fashion, picking up a booking late on for a foul on Luis Guilherme.
