BREAKING NEWS:James Tavernier rejected terms and conditions and insisted leaving few minutes ago

Rangers are not in a position to sell James Tavernier, but Leanne Crichton believes the Light Blues would sanction his exit if a last-gasp offer was made.

The Gers captain has been surrounded by speculation throughout the summer transfer window, with reports suggesting Trabzonspor have made multiple approaches for his signature [Rangers Review, 23 July].

While the Englishman has been a regular fixture in Philippe Clement’s squad so far this term, Go Radio pundit Crichton believes the Ibrox board would be swayed by the potential influx of cash his exit would bring.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (15 August, 1:04:20) she said: “The chat around James Tavernier for example has gone quite quiet.

“There was a lot of chat about whether he would move on or not, can you imagine before the end of the transfer window that Rangers sell James Tavernier as well?

“At a point where the players on the pitch are not quite good enough and the players that are on the bench are not fit and available, the players that are sidelined don’t appear to be back anytime soon and then you’ve got a player in James Tavernier who’s always fit, always available and always on the teamsheet.

“You can see it happening because that’s the type of decision that would not surprise you at Rangers just now. They’re not in a position to sell him, but they would sell him perhaps to take the money into the club.”

Will James Tavernier exit Rangers amid Ibrox transfer speculation?

While supporters have been divided over Tavernier for a while now, even the most pessimistic of Rangers fans will be able to agree that Clement cannot afford to lose the Englishman at this stage of the window.

This current Gers’ squad is lacking depth and quality and unless further additions are made before the transfer window slams shut in two weeks time, they’re going to struggle to close the gap to Celtic at the top of the table.
