Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris was spotted in conversation with Illan Meslier after Leeds United’s 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light.
Meslier’s howler in stoppage time cost Leeds a huge three points as he somehow let the ball go past his body and into the net when an innocuous free-kick had seemingly been dealt with.
Le Bris worked alongside Meslier during their time together at Lorient, with the Sunderland boss speaking highly of him in his pre-match press conference.
However, he could never have expected Meslier to do him a favour such as that. It is undoubtedly the worst goalkeeping error seen at Leeds in several years.
Meslier’s Leeds teammate Junior Firpo could not hide his discontent at full-time, as he was captured storming straight down the tunnel in anger.

Regis Le Bris on what Meslier told him after Leeds error
Le Bris was captured speaking to Meslier immediately after full-time. The two were sharing a laugh together on the pitch, something which has not gone down too well on social media.
Clearly Le Bris was keen to ask Meslier just how he managed to let the ball go beyond him, and BBC journalist Adam Pope has revealed exactly what the Leeds man told him.

Meslier is said to have claimed the ball ‘changed direction’ after it hit the ground, though it is hard to accept that as an excuse.
Le Bris also revealed in his post-match press conference that he feels sorry for his former Lorient goalkeeper, even if it did benefit his team.
He said: “I feel sorry for the boy because I like him. Every player can make a mistake everywhere on the pitch. Tough game against a strong team.
“Decided to play a 5-4-1 and it was not the best shape against this team. When you make a mistake in that part of the pitch, the opponent can create chances quickly. After their first goal we played 4-4-2 and it was better.
“We dominated possession most of the time without many chances. Fatigue was clear in the second part of the game. We deserved that draw. Even if the goal is lucky for us, the whole balance of the game and the way we played and adapted, it was a good point from us.”

Meslier has no excuse after Leeds blunder
Meslier could come out and list every excuse he wants but ultimately, there isn’t a single one which is going to save him from the embarrassment.
You would back any professional goalkeeper at this level to take that ball 100 times out of 100 and somehow Meslier wasn’t able to do so.
Unfortunately, Meslier now has two weeks to stew on what he has just done which is far from ideal for him personally.
Leeds simply have to do they all can to pick him back up because a low on confidence Meslier, as seen in the relegation season, is an absolute liability.
