Breaking News:Hamza Igamane may be unhappy at Rangers already as Olympic dream
Rangers may have risked upsetting Hamza Igamane already after denying him the opportunity to go to the Olympics with Morocco, says Derek Ferguson.
The team’s manager Tarik Sektioui omitted the new Ibrox striker during the summer, revealing that the he was one whose club had refused to release him for the tournament [Rangers Review, 5 July].
But Ferguson believes it is a risky move by the Light Blues due to the importance representing their country holds to players, suggesting the responsibility is on the club to accommodate it despite the risk of injury.
Last season’s loan star Abdallah Sima was ruled out for three months after being hurt in training at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal.
He exclusively told Ibrox News: “It’s a difficult one that because you always want to represent your country.
“We let Sima go, although he was not our player he was a loan player. He went to play for his country and got a bad injury so maybe that’s in the back of their mind.
“But you want to keep players happy. Watching the Euros it wasn’t a great tournament in terms of the football that’s been played but you can see the passion.
“When the national anthems are played and how much it means to these players.

“So that’s a tricky one. I’m sure they’ve sat down with the boy and explained their reasons.
“But if you want to represent your country I think the onus is on the club to let you go and do that to be honest.”
Philippe Clement still unable to use Hamza Igamane for Rangers
Philippe Clement
Rangers manager Philippe Clement has yet to name Hamza Igamane on the bench.
If the decision to keep Igamane back from the Olympics was designed to help him get a fast start to life in Glasgow it hasn’t worked.
Philippe Clement hasn’t even been able to name the 21-year-old on the bench for any of the first three games as he only joined team training earlier this month.
