BREAKING NEWS;Everton vs Aston Villa Premier League match has been postponed few minutes ago

Everton go in hunt for their first Premier League win of the season at Aston Villa on Saturday still smarting for that gut-punching defeat to Bournemouth a fortnight ago.

The international break came at a poor time as Evertonians have had to stew on that result, or more accurately those final eight minutes, for 14 days.

Even now I am not sure how a team can dominate a game so much before throwing it away, but it seems there is no depth Everton will not plumb.

Despite all the doom and gloom I still think the Toffees will be ok as key players (cough, Jarrad Branthwaite, cough) return from injury, though it may get worse before it gets better.

A trip to Villa Park is not really what a struggling team in search of its first win needs. But Everton always have the capacity to surprise – good and bad.

Aston Villa are the one team that gives Everton hope.

Seven years ago they were languishing in the Championship after several seasons of decline. But some canny recruitment and an inspired managerial pick later, they are in the Champions League.

Plenty of cash has been spent to try and build on those sold foundations, including Amadou Onana (who already has two goals) from the Toffees and Ian Maatsen from Chelsea.

There was also the PSR swap between Everton, with Lewis Dobbin heading to Villa Park (and subsequently West Brom on loan) and Tim Iroegbunam going the other way.

They have begun the season with wins at West Ham and Leicester sandwiching a defeat at Arsenal. Their Champions League campaign begins against Young Boys three days after their meeting with Everton.

Not much to write home about when Everton and Villa last met at Goodison in January, with the two sides playing out a scrappy goalless draw.
