Rangers want Bojan Miovski transfer to replace Cyriel Dessers amid Connor Barron dispute
Rangers are unlikely to be able to sign Bojan Miovski thanks to the poor relationship with Aberdeen, Derek Ferguson believes.
The Light Blues are interested in the North Macedonian striker as a replacement for Cyriel Dessers but don’t to be held to ransom by the Dons, according to the Scottish Daily Mail (1 July).
An agreement has so far already proven impossible between the two sides on compensation for the Gers signing midfielder Connor Barron, with a tribunal on the cards.
As a result, although Ferguson would “really like” Miovski at Ibrox and sees him as a major upgrade on Dessers, he doesn’t see it happening in the context of the dispute over Barron.
He spoke exclusively to Ibrox News and said: “It’s funny I was thinking about that. It’s a difficult one because I think Rangers made more than a fair offer. Aberdeen were obviously not happy with it whatsoever.
“The relationship between Rangers and Aberdeen is not the greatest at times for numerous reasons.
“He’s just a player, Miovski, who I really like. If I’d him in a Rangers jersey I can see him banging in at least 20-30 goals easily each season.
“The comparison is with Dessers and I think he’s a far better player, a more clinical finisher, God Almighty.
“But that could play a part in it, that relationship has not been great for a number of years.
“If there was a deal to be done I think it would have been done by now.”
Aberdeen star out of reach for Philippe Clement at Rangers
Philippe Clement needs help up front after a season where injuries forced him to rely on Dessers week after week.
The Nigerian improved significantly and managed to finish with 22 goals in total but doesn’t look to be a number one option and could be sold this summer [Rangers Review, 3 July].
If a deal can’t be reached for Barron, a player who has already signed, then the chances of an agreement on Miovski look slim so the manager will have to look elsewhere.
Lawrence Shankland is the obvious alternative and it looks like a move for the Scotland international could be back on the table [Daily Record, 22 July].
In other Rangers news, the Light Blues will now have “plenty of scope” to make signings with £75,000-a-week to be cleared off the wage bill.
