Breaking News:Celtic icon slates £9.5m Hoops signing and labels him ‘unfit’ as major flaws outlined

A lot of the chat this season has been about the gap between Celtic and Rangers as the Parkhead club shows its dominance on and off the pitch.

On the pitch, Brendan Rodgers continued his unbeaten run against Rangers after hammering the Ibrox club 3-0 in the first Glasgow Derby of the season.

Off it, Celtic have flexed their financial muscle after breaking the club’s transfer record twice to land Adam Idah and then Belgian international midfielder, Arne Engels.

However, despite that Graeme Souness was adamant that the gap between Celtic and Rangers wasn’t that big after he watched his old team’s defeat at Celtic Park.

At the time, Souness said, “The discussion last season was about the gap. Now I don’t think there is such a big gap. I really don’t.

“I think I saw about four games, two O-d F-rm games last year of Rangers. I obviously watch them on the telly when they are on, I watch Celtic when they are on, I don’t see the gap as being enormous.

“I’m telling you, logic tells you and common sense tells me that there’s not a lot in it. Now if Celtic get £30m (for Matt O’Riley) and go and spend it wisely then that gap would get bigger.”

But that is a view not shared by the former chairman of Rangers, Dave King.

Dave King: There is a ‘very significant’ gap between Celtic and Rangers

King was asked about Souness’ comments by Jim White and whether or not he agreed with the former Rangers manager’s view and King was unequivocal in his answer.

Speaking on talkSPORT, King said, “I have the utmost respect for Graeme and he knows a lot more about football than I do.

“But I think that there is a very significant gap on the pitch and off the pitch at the moment between ourselves and Celtic.”

That is obvious for everyone to see and the fact that King recognises that proves just how far ahead Celtic is in terms of playing personnel and financial power.

Even after spending the guts of £30m in the transfer window, Celtic still have plenty of cash reserves in the bank to strengthen further in January if Brendan Rodgers wants to.

And on the pitch, the strength in depth Celtic have after a successful transfer window is clear to see after five straight wins in the Scottish Premiership scoring 14 goals and conceding none.

Celtic look like they are going from strength to strength as Rangers continue to play catch up at this early stage of the season. There isn’t just a gap, there is a chasm between both clubs as Celtic look set to dominate again this season.
