Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was clearly delighted with the 4-3 victory for the Champions of Scotland over the much fancied Champions of England.
Few if any , outside of the Celtic support, gave Celtic much chance at all in this Battle of Britain showdown and some will point to the Man City team not being at its strongest – it was strong enough!
And Celtic weren’t at our strongest either, with both CCV and AJ not featuring and of course we await the return of Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah at the very least.
“Some of the football we played was excellent,” the Celtic manager said afterwards to Celtic TV. “We showed how much we wanted to attack. When you play Pep’s teams, they’re so complex in how they play. I said before the game that, physically, this would be another step up for us.
“But it’s also a step up tactically because you’ve got to be so concentrated and press in the right moments. But I thought the players dealt with that so well. It was a really good night, and the supporters were amazing once again.”
On Nicholas Kuhn’s Man of the Match performance, a delighted Celtic manager had this to say about his only outfield permanent signing in 2024.
“He’s come back looking very sharp, the moves for his goals were outstanding. He finished his two goals really well. And actually, his pass for the third goal was magical really, with the outside of the foot. Two goals and an assist for him. He was very good.”
And on Kasper Schmeichel’s brilliant first 45 minutes as a Celtic player with some of his trademark saves denying the likes of Erling Haaland when he looked a strong favourite to find the back of the Celtic net, Brendan said:
