Breaking News:Alan Brazil rages over Rangers development on talkSPORT – ‘It really annoys me’

Alan Brazil is furious with the Rangers away fan lockout for the first Old Firm derby of the season on 1 September.

Celtic have informed the Light Blues of their decision to refuse allocation for away tickets for the match at Parkhead despite an agreement last season to end the lockout between the clubs.

Rangers were set to receive an allocation of 2,500 for the tie and Brazil said on talkSPORT on Thursday [15 August] as transcribed by the Daily Record, the decision takes the magic away from the Old Firm derby.

He said: “It really annoys me.”

“It’s brilliant [the away fan atmosphere]. Only 6,000 or make it I don’t know 4,000 or 5,000. Just to have a presence there makes it that little more special. Anyway, we are not going to change it.”

Rangers and Celtic lockout is ruining the Old Firm derby

Celtic decided on the lockout due to Rangers failing to implement safety measures for the return meeting at Ibrox, and the Gers are replicating the away fan ban for the match on 2 January 2025.

The Old Firm derby is one of, if not the most iconic derby in world football and that is in no small part down to the incredible atmosphere the match creates.

Rangers have failed to beat their Glasgow rivals in their last five attempts in all competitions with the latest being the 1-0 defeat in the Scottish Cup final in

May.

Celtic’s decision to put supporters’ safety at the forefront of concern is an admirable move, the Old Firm has a history of violence and controversy among fans and staff most famously in 2011, when police intervention was needed to separate Neil Lennon and Ally McCoist on the touchline at Celtic Park.

But current fans should not be punished for the troubles caused in the past and the sides need to work on a solution to ensure that away fans can attend the matches and bring the historic atmosphere back to Scotland.
