Breaking News:A real priority- Rodgers sets new signing target

Brendan Rodgers has admitted that getting Greg Taylor signed onto a new contract is now a priority.

In the final week of the transfer window Alex Vale, Luke McGowan, Arne Engels and Auston Trusty were signed with a number of players moving out on loan and on permanent deals.

Taylor was signed from Kilmarnock soon after the £25m sale of Kieran Tierney, after seeing off Boli Bolingoli, Diego Laxalt and Alexandro Bernabei he has become a first team fixture and spoken highly of by team-mates in relation to his leadership qualities.

Asked if there was an update on a new contract for Greg Taylor, Rodgers said:

No, not yet. I hope we can get something organised and done on that because he’s a fantastic player for us. He makes that position work how we want it to look, and he’s first class.

He knows we want him to stay and hopefully, between his reps and the club, we can organise that. He is a player that I really rate and I’ve seen him grow from the outside looking in.

I really like everything about Greg, his personality and I love his spirit. I love how he plays the game and he plays like a midfielder coming from that outside position into the pitch. He makes it difficult for the opposition and he is technically strong for a player who is small in stature.

He competes in his duels and wins headers and does a lot of good things in the game which I like and appreciate. I really hope that we can tie him down. In this period, that would be a real priority for us to get something sorted.

With the level of endorsement the onus is on Michael Nicholson to get a new contract signed off.

There hasn’t been much if any speculation about clubs showing interest in Taylor but turning 27 in November his next contract will be highly important, taken him into his thirties.
