Breaking news: Philippe Clement stance on Todd Cantwell exit shared as Rangers …

Philippe Clement wants Todd Cantwell, James Tavernier and Connor Goldson “out” of Rangers and is preparing for a future without them, according to Roger Hannah.

The Ibrox trio have been linked with exits with clubs considering Cantwell [Scottish Sun, 22 July] Trabzonspor making an offer for Tavernier [Rangers Review, 23 July] and Goldson being linked with a move to ArisLimassol [Super Sport, 22 July].

Both Tavernier and Cantwell missed out on the Gers’ pre-season clash with Manchester United while Goldson was a substitute and Scottish Sun journalist Hannah believes Clement is already looking beyond the trio.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (23 July, 18:29) he said: “Philippe Clement is preparing for a future without Tavernier, without Goldson, without Cantwell and probably without two or three others as well.

‘He wants them out to get a bit of money to spend, but also to free up the considerable wages a lot of these players are on.”

Will Todd Cantwell exit Rangers amid Ibrox transfer speculation?

Clement had always insisted that this would be a summer of change at Ibrox as he finally looked to put his own stamp on the squad left behind by Michael Beale in Glasgow.

The Gers’ current financial situation has made that more difficult than expected for the Belgian and he now finds himself in a position where he has to shift some players out of the door before making any more signings.

As Hannah suggests, it is clear that the Rangers boss already has one eye on next season and therefore has had no issue leaving Goldson out of starting XIs while Cantwell and Tavernier miss out on pre-season squads completely.

Yes, both players do have injury issues, but that doesn’t mean they will be immediately back in the fold once they have recovered. Clement could well continue to snub them even when they’re fit and available.

Things will likely be made clearer in the coming weeks as pre-season preparations step up and transfer business comes to a head.

At this moment though, it seems as though the Gers are preparing for life without their exit-linked trio.
