Newcastle United are looking to enhance their attacking options in January, while Paul Mitchell wants to think outside the box.
The Magpies’ recruitment has come under the microscope in recent months. Paul Mitchell was very critical of Newcastle United‘s strategy on the back of a disappointing summer, and is eager for the club to tap into different markets.
That could lead them to Argentina, with Newcastle linked with Boca Juniors attacker Kevin Zenon.
The 23-year-old is attracting a lot of interest with his performances in South America, with Newcastle one of the clubs that is keen to secure his signature.
What is expected to happen with Newcastle target Kevin Zenon in January
But that might be unlikely for the Magpies, even if Zenon is on track to leave Boca Juniors at the beginning of 2025.
TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey has spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about Newcastle’s interest in Zenon, who could be set to change clubs in January.
“The latest I have been told is that Boca Juniors expect him to go in January,” he said.
“He’s a left-sider, whereas Newcastle probably don’t need another left-sider. So I’m not so sure if Newcastle will sign him.
“But he’s a big talent, and the fee would be manageable.
“Newcastle have watched him and they like him. But I get a feeling that he might not come to England. The interest might be a bit stronger on the continent.”
Why Newcastle probably will not sign Zenon
Newcastle want to sign players like Zenon. Given the fact he is yet to play in Europe, his price tag will not be ridiculous. It is even claimed by Uno Sante Fe that he has a release clause worth £11.6million.
But the main issue for Newcastle is his position. The Magpies are in the market for a right winger, whereas Zenon plays on the left.
