Abdallah Sima ‘agrees loan deal’ to Champions League side as Rangers’ hopes of re-signing Brighton star fade

Sima himself expressed his interest in returning to the club earlier this window.

But Rangers’ desire to bring the Senegalese international back to Ibrox took a hit when they were knocked out of the Champions League by Dynamo Kyiv.

And now reports in France are claiming that he has given verbal approval to another simple loan deal to French shock troops Brest.

Foot Mercado wrote: “Stade Brestois and Brighton and Hove Albion are nearing an agreement for the loan of Abdallah Sima.”

Sima made 25 league appearances for Rangers last season, scoring 11 goals.

He began his professional career with Slavia Prague in 2020.

He put in a man-of-the-match performance as the Czech’s beat Rangers 2-0 at Ibrox.

That match was overshadowed by an incident in which Czech player Ondrej Kudela allegedly directed racial abuse at Rangers player Glen Kamara.

After an impressive season with Slavia, he got his big move to the Premier League.

However, he hasn’t quite impressed enough for a PL debut.

He has had loan spells with Stoke City, Angers, and of course, Rangers.

Now, he gets his chance to perform on the Champions League stage.

Brest remarkably achieved a 3rd placed finish in Ligue 1 last season, qualifying for the CL group stages this season.

It is the first time in the club’s history they will compete in Europe’s premier competition.

The 23-year-old has seven caps for Senegal, and a move to Brest could add the vital minutes at top level competition that he’s been looking for.
