Breaking News: Rangers summer transfer targets now shining in English Premier League
Cyriel Dessers admits Rangers’ 4-1 defeat to Lyon on Thursday will have been a “learning curve” for Connor Barron after his slack pass led to the Ligue 1 outfit’s second goal at Ibrox.
Alexandre Lacazette was gifted his first goal of the night when Barron, 22, played a blind pass that was easily intercepted by Corentin Tolisso.
That goal sent Lyon on their way to secure what ended up being a routine victory but Gers striker Dessers has defended his midfield teammate, who’s impressed since arriving in Govan in the summer.
“Was that a big learning curve for Connor? For sure. Look, he’s been amazing until now. But this is also part of being a football player,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“Sometimes you miss a chance or misplace a pass like he did and the other team scores out of it. It’s also about the quality and the difference at this level. If he did that on the weekend, maybe it wouldn’t be killed off.
“But in Europe, they immediately kill it off. That’s part of football. When you have the money Lyon have and you can buy players at that level, it’s normal. The sparks they had on Thursday night, those flashes of quality – they can be defining moments which decide games.
“We’ll support Connor if he needs it. But I expect him to be fine. He’s a good guy, with a great mentality and he just needs to keep going. It was a tough night for us on Thursday and hard to take”.
Rangers need a win against St. Johnstone
Before their Europa League tie against Lyon, the Gers were on a four-game winning streak.

While that might not seem much to write home about, even winning a game would’ve been applauded at the start of the season following their dropped points against Hearts and Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
Ahead of the St Johnstone game, Clement has a couple of tough decisions to make about who he wants to start the clash and although he lined up a fairly strong side against Pierre Sage’s men, changes will need to be made for their next game.
