Billy Dodds uses one word to sum up what Man Utd, Tottenham will do to Rangers

Billy Dodds believes Rangers will be “hurt” by Manchester United and Tottenham on the basis of their 4-1 loss to Lyon.

The Gers suffered a heavy defeat against the French side on Thursday (3 October) in a difficult night at Ibrox.

It is safe to say that the performance of Philippe Clement’s side wasn’t good enough, with the likes of Jefte, James Tavernier and Connor Barron struggling in particular.

While speaking on BBC Sportsound (3 October, 10:06pm), Dodds said his old side will face similar losses if they play the same way against their upcoming Premier League opposition in Europe.

“I think Man United and Spurs will hurt this Rangers team if they play like they did in the first half,” he said.

Rangers could struggle against Manchester United after Lyon defeat

It was a night to forget for Rangers in Europe once again after an excellent start in the competition against Malmo last time out.

The quality of Lyon was just too much for the home side on the night as Alexandre Lacazette, Malick Fofana and in particular Rayan Cherki ripped through them.

The night was summed up when Barron’s midfield error was capitalised on to extend the French side’s lead, which showed the difference in quality.

The likes of Cyriel Dessers struggled and faced criticism for playacting on the night and that certainly didn’t help matters.

Looking back, things could have been so different after Vaclav Cerny missed a golden chance early on which somewhat set the tone at Ibrox.

It may be a chance over the international break for Clement to sit down and take stock before returning to the Europa League against FCSB towards the end of the month (24 October).

A repeat of this showing, however, and there is simply no chance of the Light Blues advancing to the knockout rounds.
