SHOCKING NEWS;Leeds player James Debayo won’t be playing today’s match due to
James Debayo managed to stun Karl Darlow after flicking and then nutmegging his Leeds United teammate during half-time of their 1-1 draw against Norwich, according to Graham Smyth.
Writing for the Yorkshire Evening Post (2 October), journalist Smyth shared the off-camera moment and from Tuesday’s (1 October) contest at Carrow Road.
Debayo didn’t get onto the pitch, but that didn’t stop the youngster from showing off his skills.
Smyth said: “James Debayo pulling off an incredible turn and flick to nutmeg Darlow and leave him open-mouthed as the subs engaged in a half-time rondo.”
Leeds United injury news
As most will be aware, Leeds have found themselves in something of an injury crisis.
Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev are both set to be sidelined for an extended period with the former being out of action for around 10 weeks [Yorkshire Evening Post, 30 September].
While Daniel Farke still has Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell to fill the voids left behind by the injured duo, if either of them gets injured, things will get quite sticky for the West Yorkshire outfit.
The same goes for Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk as Max Wober is also set to be out for around six weeks, which has left Leeds with just two senior centre-backs at their disposal [Joe Donnohue, 30 September].
Of course, Debayo is ready and waiting in case he’s needed and, after what he managed to do to Darlow, it feels as if he’d be able to slot straight into the team without any questions asked.
However, he is still just 19 years old so if Farke wishes to use him over the next six weeks or so, then he needs to slowly ease him into the first team rather than throw him straight into the deep end.
