The Whites take on Norwich City this evening looking for another win to keep up their strong momentum at the start of the season, following four wins in the last five games.
Johannes Thorup’s Canaries represent one of the tougher tests Leeds have had since the start of the season, having won back-to-back games against Watford and Derby recently.
crushing team news update emerged from Daniel Farke’s pre-Norwich press conference on Monday afternoon on Ethan Ampadu.
The club captain limped off against Coventry City after a strong collision with Bobby Thomas, leaving him clutching his knee and needing treatment, shortly before being subbed off.
Farke revealed that it’s a 10-week absence from team training for the Welsh international, while he won’t be back in action until January:
Likely stepping into Ampadu’s place as captain on the pitch is centre-back Pascal Struijk, having worn the armband in the first half of last season before his injury.
Farke spoke about how Struijk is going to have to step up in the wake of Ampadu’s absence, via the YEP:
“Big step forward in his leadership skills and personality last season. During the whole season so far a key player and leader, fantastic performances.
“He could chip in with goals from penalties and set-pieces. It’s even more important that he delivers right now. I don’t expect him to do anything different than he’s done in recent weeks.“
Struijk is going to have to lead by example for Leeds without Ampadu
Ampadu is your stereotypical captain in the way he communicates and leads by example on the pitch with commanding performances.
As for Struijk, he doesn’t seem as vocal as the Welshman, but the confidence and personality his performances ooze is a great assest.
