Breaking News:Rangers ex-players want Philippe Clement tactical change at Ibrox

Hamza Igamane could surpass Cyriel Dessers as number one Rangers striker soon but Philippe Clement needs to look at playing them together, says Derek Ferguson.

The “exciting” young Moroccan wasn’t introduced to the first team until the 1 September loss at Celtic but has impressed since his breakthrough and ex-Ibrox midfielder Ferguson believes that can only be a good thing to push regular starter Dessers.

But he and other former Light Blues players are agreed in wanting to see the manager aim for more attacking dominance in home games now the Gers are back at Ibrox from Hampden.

Igamane started his first game for Rangers in the 1-0 win over Hibs on 29 September and Ferguson has no issues with him breaking into the XI already, but feels a tactical change would make the most of both the strikers.

He exclusively told Ibrox News: “Aye, why not? Because obviously Danilo has been back out, he’s had another operation so we’re unsure how long before he’s going to be coming back.

“And I think Dessers has got to have competition so the great thing is the young man’s come in, he’s looked the part, he looks exciting, so Dessers is looking over his shoulder with his performance levels.

“I would like to see them play together. This is another situation where the manager seems to use either a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 but me and quite a few ex-players, we’ve spoken about that, we’d like to see two up, especially at home.

“You get that away from home, you’d go with a lone striker, but when you’re at home, back at Ibrox you dominate most of the play so why can we not play with two strikers?

“I would love to see the two of them play together. Give them the opportunity. Maybe not to start the game but bring Igamane on and partner them up top.

“It’s something I’d like to see.”

Two strikers are rare in modern football but with Dessers in good form, despite some typically maddening misses in recent games, with seven goals so far this term and Igamane already looking a valuable asset it would be a popular option.

Marvin Bartley insisted on 21 September that the senior striker must remain the starter for Clement, but adding the youngster alongside rather than instead could might help bring the best out of the Nigerian international.

The manager has contended with extensive injury problems at the striker position in his time at Ibrox so he may be hesitant, but if Danilo can ever get back to full fitness it might be something that comes into play.

In other Rangers news, fears have emerged that Celtic may have snuck in ahead of the Light Blues to seal a Lennon Miller deal.
