Philippe Clement slammed by pundit as footage emerges after Rangers v Hibs

Tam McManus has fired back at Philippe Clement after his comments in the Rangers v Hibs post-match press conference.

Gers won the game at Ibrox 1-0 on 29 September and managed to secure the three points as Jack Butland saved Mykola Kukharevych’s penalty.

However, Clement believes that the penalty never should’ve been given and footage has emerged of the press conference where the Belgian has demonstrated why John Souttar’s arm was in a natural position.

McManus wrote on X: “On what planet is that not a penalty for Hibs? Geez peace.”

Rangers lost a 50-50 decision but managed to win the game

Clement’s argument, supported by his demonstration in the press conference, hinges on the interpretation that Souttar’s arm was in a natural position, which under current FIFA laws could suggest it shouldn’t be a penalty.

His frustration stems from the impact such decisions can have on the game’s outcome, which is particularly galling when it feels unjust.

Conversely, McManus’s response highlights the common fan and pundit perspective that if any part of the arm, especially when it affects the ball’s path towards goal, should naturally be considered an offence and a spot kick must be given.
