‘Absolutely outrageous’ – BBC Sportsound loses his mind at what Rangers player did in win v Hibs
Steven Thompson was left amazed by Tom Lawrence as he opened the scoring for Rangers against Hibernian with an audacious effort at Ibrox.
The Gers took all three points from Ibrox on Sunday 29 September with a 1-0 win thanks to the Wales international’s first-half strike, which was initially ruled offside before VAR intervened.
This left former Light Blues striker Thompson in awe while speaking live on BBC Radio Scotland Sportsound (29 September, 12:34pm).
He said: “It’s an absolutely outrageous finish from the edge of the box on the angle, right into the top corner. It was brilliant, we could see it all the way.”
Tom Lawrence scores a beauty for Rangers v Hibernian
The 30-year-old stepped up when Philippe Clement and Co. needed him with a top-class effort from the edge of the box.
Lawrence came in from the left flank and curled an excellent strike into the top corner, leaving Josef Bursik clutching at thin air.
The ex-Derby County man was initially disappointed after being flagged offside by the linesman as his shot found the back of the net.
He was reprived when VAR bailed him out and awarded the goal to give the Gers a 1-0 lead midway through the first half.
There was another huge moment as Jack Butland, looking more like the Butland of last season, kept out a Mykola Kukharevych on the stroke of half time which enabled his side to go on and claim all the points.
A well-earned three points to add to Rangers’ tally in the Scottish Premiership, a day after their Old Firm rivals put St Johnstone to the sword to go top of the league.
In other Rangers news, a Morgan Whittaker transfer claim has now emerged amid the latest Plymouth exit links.
