BREAKING NEWS:THE kick-off time between Roma and Venezia fc has been postponed few minutes ago
With one win and two draws to begin their league campaign, Roma’s quest for a three-peat isn’t exactly off to a roaring start. However, the same cannot be said for the Giallorosse’s European ambitions. After advancing to the quarterfinals two years ago, including a match against Barcelona at the Stadio Olimpico (and a return leg at Camp Nou), Roma was bounced from the proverbial group of death last season, failing to advance from a group that included PSG, Ajax, and Bayern Munich.
It was a rude awakening for the club, but after experiencing the highs and lows of Champions League football over the past two seasons, Roma shouldn’t be caught off guard by any opponent. After cruising past Swiss side Servette in the second qualification round by a 10-3 aggregate scoreline last week, Alessandro Spugna and the Giallorosse are poised to test their mettle against Europe’s best clubs.
While this year’s group isn’t quite as daunting as last season, Roma still has three formidable opponents to contend with—Wolfsburg, Galatasaray, and Lyon, winners of the previous three French titles and an eight-time Champions League winner. The good news is that Roma gets two matches to pad their record before facing mighty Lyon. However, they then have to face Ada Hegerberg and the rest of Les Lyonnaises in consecutive matches. With the Giallorosse overcoming some early-season injury woes, the club should be at full strength by the time the Group Stage kicks off—and they’ll need all hands on deck to survive and advance.
