BREAKING NEWS:Rangers Vs Union Berlin friendlies Kick-off has been reschedule due to

Rangers are nowhere near Celtic amid a stuttering preseason after finally securing another new signing in Vaclav Cerny, says Derek Ferguson.

The Wolfsburg winger has arrived on a season-long loan deal after Philippe Clement had been frustrated for weeks in his publicly-stated plans to add more experience to the squad [BBC Sport, 29 June].

The Light Blues confirmed the 26-year-old’s arrival on 26 July with the Czech international joining Oscar Cortes as part of the transfer business in wide areas, becoming the eighth official incoming deal of the summer.

But Connor Barron is arguably the only new starter out of that group after his exit from Aberdeen so the Gers look well short.

And after a limp 2-1 friendly defeat at Birmingham City during the week continued rough preseason form Ferguson is under no illusions that more work isn’t badly needed in the market to improve the quality of the playing staff.

“We just need better quality, it’s simple as. It’s clear to see,” he said, reacting exclusively to Ibrox News.

“Listen, I know with preseason it’s about minutes and it’s about fitness but if you look at the quality that we have produced over the last couple of games it’s been way off it.

“So this boy, I don’t know too much about him. I know he’s a winger, I think he plays both left and right. We need an upgrade, it’s simple as.

“We’re always going to be matched against the team across the city and if you look at the quality of what they’ve got at the moment in their squad, and then you look at ours, it’s clear to see that we are nowhere near it.”
