SO SAD : Dycue confirm the sack of Jordan finally
The i additionally reported on 23 September that Textor, who gave an extensive interview to Sky Sports’ Alan Myers (12 September) and spoke further about the takeover in a press conference at his Ligue 1 Lyon [Le Progres, 11 September], had “raised eyebrows” at the club who then issued a statement distancing themselves from much of what he’d said.
Mark Douglas goes further in The i, suggesting that the confusion caused by Textor’s public pronouncements being dampened down by the club is what allowed Friedkin to swoop back in, with a takeover agreement now announced on 23 September.
777 Partners debt issue settled for Everton takeover
Fans and the media would largely have welcomed Textor’s openness, but Moshiri clearly didn’t and Friedkin’s radio silence looks to have won the day.
The Roma chief’s group were even playing down the suggestion he was back in the frame as recently as last week [i News, 17 September] when clearly they very much were.
Ultimately the most important thing is that the Toffees end up in a better place than they are now with the right people in charge, and canvassing opinions of supporters from the current options it seems fairly likely the majority would say The Friedkin Group was their top choice.
So if the American gets there without giving anything away publicly then fine, as it was more of an issue through last season when concerns mounted around 777 Partners and only the occasional platitude was issued from either side saying everything was on track when it evidently wasn’t.

Everton AS Roma Dan Friedkin
Dan Friedkin looks set to become the new Everton owner once more.
Friedkin looked like he was within touching distance of becoming the new Everton owner two months ago but dramatically abandoned that deal, largely related to uncertainty around money owed to 777 [The Athletic, 19 July].
But this time that issue has been resolved [Giulia Bould, 23 September] and much of the process was already completed in the summer, so Toffees supporters now look closer than ever to the new era they have waited so long for.
