The Celtic boss also added Nicholas Kuhn in January and after settling into the club and having a pre-season under his belt, the German has been flying.

However, that hasn’t stopped Michael Stewart from claiming that despite how good Kuhn (and Daizen Maeda) has been, there is a player at Celtic who is the best winger at the club.

James Forrest is still Celtic’s ‘best’ winger

James Forrest has had a remarkable Celtic career. The original one-man club player, the legendary winger has broken through the 500 appearance mark at the club.

But despite Rodgers having the likes of Luis Palma, Maeda and Kuhn, Stewart believes that Forrest is still the best winger at Celtic.

Stewart told The Scottish Football Social Club, “The one position I’m just slightly unsure of for Celtic is in that wide area.

“Just a little bit of an X Factor somebody that can do something out of nothing at that Champions League level that can potentially win them a game.

“I’m just not sure that they’re as strong in that area as they are everywhere else because for me James Forest, I know Brendan Rogers said it last year but I would say the same now, I still think he’s the best and I wonder whether he was rested at the weekend because he’ll be starting against Slovan Bratislava.”

Forrest still has a part to play at Celtic

With his contract expiring at the end of this season, Forrest has already proven that he still has something to offer Celtic.

Coming on as a second-half substitute against Hearts, Forrest had an instant impact as he created an assist for Luke McCowan’s first (and Celtic’s second) against the Edinburgh club.

The Celtic fans also saw how Forrest helped drag the club to a double after some sparkling end-of-season form also earned him a call-up for Scotland.

Forrest is likely to play some part for Celtic tomorrow night and should he have the same impact on the European stage as he has done domestically, Brendan Rodgers will have some serious thinking to do over renewing the legendary winger’s contract.
