BREAKING NEWS:Rangers confirmed the existing return of Steven Gerrard finally…
Philippe Clement has nothing to fear as Steven Gerrard appears to have quashed rumours of a potential return to Rangers.
Dave King has put his name forward to replace John Bennett as chairman of the Light Blues [talkSPORT] and named Gerrard in his pitch for a sensational return to Glasgow.
However, the Daily Record [17 September] reports that the South African is set to be unsuccessful in his attempts to return to Rangers.
Amid the swirling recent rumours, Gerrard, meanwhile, has all but confirmed his long-term commitment to Al-Ettifaq.
As per the Daily Record, the 44-year-old has today spoken about the injury problems to Majed Dawran and Jack Hendry, while admitting he is already looking ahead to the next transfer window to bolster his side. It seems that his future will therefore remain in Saudi Arabia, rather than Glasgow.
Philippe Clement faces uncertainty at Rangers
Clement has received the full backing of the Rangers board amid the resignation of Bennett [Chris Jack], but the possibility of the Belgian being relieved of his duties under a new chairman remains.
The Belgian has been the subject of immense scrutiny at Ibrox since the 3-0 defeat to Celtic in the Old Firm added further pressure after the Champions League elimination at the hands of Dynamo Kyiv earlier this season.
Rangers got their Scottish Premiership campaign back on track with a 1-0 win against Dundee United on Sunday [15 September], but the performance was hardly encouraging with the Gers receiving several yellow cards for time-wasting in an underwhelming reaction from the side.
Clement
Europa League football will provide a respite for the Light Blues. No matter how far they advance in the competition, it will not award the same financial riches of the Champions League but can be a pivotal platform to help Clement gain some momentum to take into the SPFL.
