Breaking News:Rangers target Davy Klaassen issues fresh transfer admission

Rangers summer target Davy Klaassen has finally spoken about his summer transfer decision to move to Ajax on a free.

The Daily Record reported on 18 September, carrying the Dutch playmaker’s quotes, that Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen were said to have launched an audacious attempt to sign the 31-year-old.

However, he wanted to return to his home country and to the club he spent over a decade at.

He said: “They didn’t want me to leave, so I went to the coach and said ‘Coach, I don’t know. I want to go to Ajax, I want to go home.’ I told him I wanted to leave because I cannot give my all anymore and that is unfair for you too. Coach, I just want to go home.”

Rangers need a player like Davy Klaassen in their midfield

Klaassen’s decision to return to Ajax instead of moving to Ibrox is undoubtedly a significant missed opportunity for Philippe Clement’s side.

The Dutchman, known for his intelligence, vision and goal-scoring from midfield, could have brought a dynamic presence to Gers’ engine room.

His experience at Ajax, where he was celebrated for his leadership and ability to control the tempo of games, would have translated well into the Scottish Premiership, potentially elevating the Glasgow outfit’s play both domestically and in Europe.

The 31-year-old’s knack for scoring crucial goals and providing key assists would have added not just creativity but also a goal threat from midfield, areas where Rangers have historically looked for improvements.

Clement who’s keen on building a squad with tactical versatility and depth, might regret not securing Klaassen, whose return to Ajax was driven by personal reasons rather than footballing ones.

Hopefully, the new signings at Gers get integrated well and can show what they can bring to the table sooner rather than later.
