Celtic best player announces unexpected retirement
Slovan Bratislava boss Vladimir Weiss has told his players the TWO things they must show in their performance when they face Celtic.
The Slovakian champions head for Glasgow’s east end on Wednesday night as both sides kick off their Champions League campaign. It’s a newly revamped competition this time around and Brendan Rodgers and Co will be looking to get off to a flying start. But Bratislava are aware of the cauldron of noise they will face and vow it will not get in their heads.Speaking to the media, Weiss said: “We know what to expect. We have several players who have played here before and they know about the atmosphere. A lot of players have said this is the best atmosphere in the world. We have enough experience to not give in to this atmosphere and not make mistakes. We know that most of the game we will be under pressure. Just like we get emotion and energy from our fans, Celtic will get that. So you have to have self-confidence and discipline.”The manager’s son, also named Vladimir Weiss, has history against Celtic as well having spent time at Rangers on loan and now returns to Glasgow as a key member of his father’s team. He has revealed they have spent a lifetime talking about Glasgow’s big two.
He continued: “All our lives we’ve been talking about Celtic and Rangers. My son played for Rangers and he’s a Rangers fan and he will face Celtic, their arch rival. When he was here at Rangers, they won the double. So he has the best memories. And the derby with Celtic is the best. He had a great time and he will play Celtic again and we’ll see how it goes.
“Midfielder Robert Mak has also faced Celtic before, losing twice in the Europa League with Ferencvaros to Ange Postecoglou’s side three years ago. He was also sent off on international duty for Slovakia in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying defeat to Scotland.
