Breaking News:Philippe Clement reveals moment John Bennett told him he was stepping down as Rangers chief

Philippe Clement has vowed that people will see a very different Rangers now they are returning home to Ibrox.

The Light Blues got back to winning ways at Tannadice as a Tom Lawrence goal won the game and put them up to third place. It got Rangers a confidence boosting result, after their derby disaster and sets things up nicely for their long overdue return to home, when they play Dundee in the Premier Sports Cup on Saturday.

A major blunder and the delay in the arrival of steel meant that the work on the Copland Stand had to be delayed and had seen Rangers having to play their home games at Hampden. Clement stated: “It’s amazing to go back there. You see already today, our fans made it almost a home game, with their support, so at Ibrox it’s ten times more. So all the team, all the staff, everybody in the club is looking really forward to fill this energy out at Ibrox”

Clement has admitted that it has pained John Bennett to step down. The Rangers boss revealed that his boss had no choice and was forced to take the decision by his doctor. Clement revealed that Bennett will still have a say at Rangers but his immediate priority is getting himself back to full health.

The Belgian said: “Yeah, that’s not something that you want, of course. So I heard from John as probably one of the first to hear about that during the week. He explained everything to me. It’s not his decision. It’s a doctor’s decision.

“So it’s with a lot of pain in the heart that he had to make the decision. And I wish him all the best to recover as fast as possible, but he will not be away. He will be there at a distance, but he needs to keep a little bit of distance now to recover first.”

It is another key position that needs filling at Rangers, along with that of the chief executive. It puts more pressure on Clement but it is something he is ready to take on his shoulders.

He said: “I think until now I’ve been the only one talking outside. So that doesn’t change too much. Maybe it will change next week. We will see. ‘m not the guy who brings in the cash or the money into the club.

“My job is to get the best out of the players who are in the building and to look for new ones together with the recruitment team and to make the right decisions with the budget we have.

“That’s my job to do and I will continue in that way. But I also had a lot of talks before with James (Bisgrove) and with John about strategic things for the future of the club and to make things better in the club, in everything, but also in Scottish football. So I think it will continue with the new people who step Clement has played down questions that he has felt the pressure in recent weeks. He insisted: “No, no, no pressure. There’s nobody putting more pressure on myself than me. I want to win every game. I’m disappointed. I told you guys also. I hate to lose.

“So I hated that and I wanted the reaction of the team, but it’s my job also to keep everything calm at the right moments also. Unfortunately, in the past, I could go on the pitch and then change things. That’s not the case anymore. But I believe really hard in the potential of this squad.”
