JUST IN:Philippe Clement confirmed the suspension of two key players few minutes ago

Ianis Hagi’s future at Rangers has been taken out of Philippe Clement’s hands by John Bennett, according to Hugh Keevins.

The Gers manager confirmed in a press conference that the Romanian midfielder’s situation at Ibrox has not changed during the international break as he remains out of the first-team picture in Glasgow [Rangers Review, 13 September].

Clement insisted that the decision not to use the 26-year-old was not just his and Keevins believes it would have been Gers’ chairman Bennett who told the Belgian to avoid activating a clause in Hagi’s deal.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (13 September, 1:41:00) he said: “There lies the truth of the matter.

“The situation to my way of thinking has been taken out of his hands by the chairman saying if he plays one more game, there is a financial change in his contract and we can’t afford it.”

Will Ianis Hagi exit Rangers amid Ibrox transfer developments?

It is common knowledge that the Gers aren’t awash with cash at this moment in time and they will therefore be eager to avoid spending unnecessarily wherever they possibly can.

Reports do suggest that Hagi’s contract at Ibrox does hold a previously unknown clause that would see him handed a financial boost if he were to continue to make first-team appearances for the Light Blues [Sky Sports, 12 August].

While it is possible that Clement just doesn’t believe the attacking midfielder is good enough to play regularly for a title-challenging team, it is entirely plausible that the Belgian could just be acting on instructions from above.

Regardless of who has made the decision that Hagi should be exiled, it is clear that at this moment in time, the Romanian international has no way back into the first team picture in the immediate future.

It seems as though he will spend the next few months training with the reserves until the transfer window opens again and he can secure a permanent move out of Glasgow.
