Oscar Cortes injury update as Philippe Clement confirms 3 missing for Rangers v Dundee Utd

Philippe Clement has confirmed three Rangers players are unavailable for the game against Dundee United.

The Gers boss spoke in his 13 September press conference ahead of the return to Scottish Premiership action at Tannadice to rule out Danilo, Rabbi Matondo and Ridvan Yilmaz, although the Turkish defender is now back in individual training outside.

The Belgian added that Danilo’s set back was “unlucky” after a slip but fears of an ACL problem have been averted.

He said Ross McCausland picked up an injury during the international break which should not be serious, while suggesting Oscar Cortes could be fit to return for the first time since the opening day of the season after playing an hour behind closed doors.

The Colombian and summer signing Hamza Igamane are said to be making good progress.

Ross McCausland injury not serious for Rangers

Clement may have made changes to the medical department during the summer but they clearly haven’t had the desired effect with injuries already piling up again this term.

It will therefore be a relief that the Belgian appears to have got one wide option back in Cortes and avoided losing one at the same time in McCausland.

The Colombian was set to be a big part of the job to replace Brighton loanee Abdallah Sima, but just as when he arrived on loan last year he was quickly knocked out with an injury after being hurt in the goalless draw at Hearts.

With Matondo ruled out for months [Football Scotland, 5 September] immediately after Rangers shunned transfer interest ahead of the deadline [Football Scotland, 30 August] attacking areas have rapidly become a headache.

Having spent the international break stewing over a miserable defeat to Celtic in the Old Firm derby it is vital that Clement and his side get a result against Jim Goodwin’s men.

And if Cortes and McCausland are both available to call upon as hoped, and Igamane is ready to build on his long-delayed debut at Parkhead to feature again, there will be slightly more hope of coming away with the much-needed points.
