Hagi price tag ‘set’, Europa League foes kick off fighting talk and dramatic Bajrami U-turn – Rangers news bulletin
Malmo won’t underestimate Rangers despite swerving the Europa League big guns – but warned the Ibrox side they’ll be out to shoot them down in Sweden.
Philippe Clement’s team kick off the revamped tournament as they look to bounce back from Champions League qualifying disappointment with a victory against their old foes on September 26. They’ve twice been knocked out of Europe by the Swedes in recent seasons and will be determined not to let history repeat.
Rangers landed a glamour draw which will see them take on the likes of Manchester United and Spurs, while Malmo in contrast were drawn against more modest teams – with Galatasaray, Twente and Olympiacos at home as well as Gers. However, Norwegian international Botheim insists they are desperate to get off to a flier. He said: “I think we can get a good start in the Europa League. It’s true we avoided teams like Manchester United, Roma, Aax, Lazio and Spurs, but we won’t be underestimating any opponents.
“There will be tough matches regardless, starting with Rangers at home. But I do think we have what it takes to qualify. We have to play against Rangers, Galatasaray, Twente and Olympiacos at home and I think everyone at the club is really looking forward to all of the games at our place in particular. I think we will be at our strongest at home.”
