James Tavernier has reached ‘natural conclusion’ at Rangers as former Ibrox striker says ‘it’s maybe time to move on’

That’s when the Turkish transfer window shuts and all talk of exits will cease until January.

Unless of course, the Ibrox captain moves on before the deadline.

Besiktas boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the latest to be linked with the free-scoring right-back – who has hit a barren spell in front of goal without a strike to his name since MARCH.

The duo worked together to great effect in Rangers’ run to the Europa League Final 2022 and after rivals Trabzonspor had a bid re-buffed in July, the Super Lig side could yet swoop.

It could ease tensions and ‘toxic energy’ around Ibrox according to one former Light Blue.

Tavernier was barracked by angry fans following the Old Firm defeat to Celtic on September 1.

The ugly confrontation followed a similar exchange and Philippe Clement being heckled outside Ibrox the same night.

A banner also appeared on Edmiston Drive before the boss’ Q&A at Edmiston House on Tuesday night, which read ‘Back the manager, Sack the Baord – Bennett and Park Asleep at the Wheel’.

Now Rory Loy reckons time could be up – not for the chairman or manager – but for the skipper.

He played at Ibrox under Dick Advocaat before leaving for Carlisle, Dundee, St Mirren and Falkirk,

He’s now a broadcast pundit and, speaking on BBC Scotland’s Football Podcast, he said: “For Rangers as a club maybe it is time, and for Rangers as a club maybe it is better to move him on and say ‘Sterling is quite injury prone, but let’s get him in at right-back and give him a go until January’.

“I just think from the clubs perspective it is not a healthy situation at the moment, especially after the scenes last week at Ibrox. ”

Loy believes it may be in the player’s best interests too.

He added: “I don’t think he has been particularly consistent this season, and that’s a worry.
