Breaking News:Rangers to sanction James Tavernier sale amid ‘toxic energy’ verdict
Rory Loy believes Rangers should sell James Tavernier to avoid “toxic energy persisting” at Ibrox.
The Gers’ captain has been linked with a move away for many months with interest coming from Trabzonspor earlier in the summer [Rangers Review, 23 July].
But the transfer window in Turkey remains open and Besiktas, coached by former Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst, are said to be interested in a last-gasp move (Fotomac).
Former Rangers striker Loy, speaking on the BBC Scottish Football Podcast on 11 September, thinks the right-back should be moved on after a negative start to the campaign.
He said: “For Rangers as a club maybe it is time, and for Rangers as a club maybe it is better to move him on and say ‘Sterling is quite injury prone, but let’s get him in at right-back and give him a go until January’.
“I just think from the club’s perspective it is not a healthy situation at the moment, especially after he scenes last week at Ibrox.
“It just feels like it has reached a natural conclusion and if Rangers were to hold onto him they are risking that toxic energy persisting.”
Rangers urged to sell James Tavernier
The full-back has been an excellent servant at Ibrox since his move from Wigan Athletic back in 2015.

This has seen him captain the Gers to plenty of top achievements from a Scottish Premiership title and a Europa League final.
Tavernier has been a consistent source of goals and assists for the Light Blues and he has been of paramount importance to the club over the years.
With that being said, his time at the top of his game appears to be over with supporters getting frustrated with his form to open the season.
Philippe Clement’s side was dumped out of the Champions League and suffered a humiliating defeat against Celtic in the Old Firm.
The latter saw him suffer abuse from supporters outside Ibrox as tensions threatened to boil over.
It feels like this could be the end of the road for the Englishman although it looks as if he will feature until January at least.
