Chuba Akpom set for Ajax exit as Nottingham Forest show interest

A story from Soccer Net now claims that Chuba Akpom is set to leave Ajax after Nottingham Forest reignited interest.

The Nigerian news outlet states that Nottingham Forest made a move to sign the striker in January, offering Ajax €15m (£12.6m) for his signature, but talks collapsed after the Dutch giants asked for €17

m (£14.3m).

Soccer News believe Ajax are now under pressure to sell players this summer, and would be vulnerable if Nottingham Forest make a new bid.

Akpom previously made seven appearances on loan at Nottingham Forest from Arsenal back in 2015 – failing to score or assist a goal before moving to Hull City on another loan deal.

Cheap deal could prove to be inspired business

Soccer News do not mention any kind of asking price from Ajax, although if Nottingham Forest put their £12.6m offer from January back on the table and the Eredivisie side accept, it could prove to be a fine bit of business.

Akpom – who Nottingham Forest also looked at signing in 2021 – impressively scored 15 goals in 36 appearances last season, having previously netted 29 goals in 42 outings for Middlesbrough in the 2022/23 campaign.

The 28-year-old clearly knows where the net is, while his presence at the City Ground could motivate Taiwo Awoniyi and Chris Wood to step things up, as the pair currently have very little competition.

Nottingham Forest’s pre-season trip to Spain is coming to a close after what has been a successful week in the sun.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side take on La Liga 2 outfit Elche on Friday night in what will be the third of their friendlies in Spain.

It will then be a return to the City Ground where Forest will come up against La Liga side Villarreal next week.

But the squad have continued their training in Spain between the games with a number of new faces getting familiar with their surroundings.

Nuno’s side have already welcomed five new players into the side this summer with room for even more to follow over the coming weeks.

And it seems two of the players who Evangelos Marinakis has signed this summer have already slotted into the squad comfortably.

Nottingham Forest summer signings settling in straight away

Forest have made it two wins out of their opening three friendlies with an unbeaten record to their name going into the game on Friday.

However, there has been one concern to come out of those games with Elliot Anderson limping off in the game on Tuesday night against Millwall.

The summer signing had made a really bright start to life with the Reds but Forest now face a nervous wait over his fitness report.

But he is not the only new signing to have impressed over in Spain and it is apparent two of the players, in particular, have acclimatised to their new squad very quickly.

Among the five Forest signings this summer are defender Nikola Milenkovic and winger Eric da Silva Moreira.

The former has only just joined up with his new side having signed on the dotted line last weekend but the latter has been around for a few weeks now.

And they have both been involved in the winning side during a small-sided game during Forest training over in Spain.

The Instagram post shows the two new recruits among the winning side with a transition period to their new club not looking like any real issue.

Nikola Milenkovic and winger Eric da Silva Moreira settling in at Forest

It is always positive to see new players settle in to their new surroundings straight away and this seems to be the case with Milenkovic and Moreira.

The proof will be in the pudding when the players get their opportunity in front of the fans.

However, the early signs are really positive with the pair fitting in seamlessly with the new teammates during pre-season training.

Getting players in early in the window can be huge for the manager with it providing the new players time to bond so they are ready to go for the opening game of the Premier League campaign.

Forest seem to have done a great job in the window and it looks to be paying off in these training session photos.
