SO SAD:Daniel Farke confirmed the departure of Georginio Rutter few minutes ago..
After losing key players to release clauses, Leeds United manager Daniel Farke might have the same issue to contend with on Illan Meslier’s future very soon, according to reports.
Leeds have closed the door on any turbulent transfer activity for the next few months with the window shutting and a new deal signed for Willy Gnonto.
While the Italian is not believed to have a release clause in his contract, there are concerns emerging that others could be eyeing that sort of arrangement.
It was claimed recently by journalist Ben Jacobs that any talks over a new contract with goalkeeper Illan Meslier might prompt the Frenchman to include a release clause.
After seeing the likes of Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter all leave for a fixed fee in a release clause, Meslier could be the next if a new deal is agreed.
Jacobs said this to Give Me Sport:
“The 49ers enterprise’s approach is very much that their hands have been a bit tied contractually, and anyone that they negotiate with, they want to try and remove that clause.
“But of course, from the player’s point of view, if you knew the clause existed for others, or you signed a new long-term deal, and I think this is particularly the case, from what I hear, with Meslier, that the player may want to protect themselves against the fact that if Leeds don’t go up, they’re stuck on a long-term deal, and maybe they feel their development is elsewhere. So it’s a balancing act.”
When it came to light that Rutter’s exit was also by virtue of a release clause, Farke spoke about how he reacted to first finding out about this detail of his contract back in January, as he said (via the YEP):
“I have asked everyone who is working on this topic to prepare months ago for this scenario when I was aware of exit clauses. Georgi is pretty unique the way he plays, when he shows his quality and potential he can be an extraordinary player.
