Rangers ‘open’ to US takeover as new details emerges – sources

Rangers would be ‘open’ to a potential takeover from American investors amid fan unrest, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Rangers fans are unhappy with the way the club is being run by the current board and would welcome a new regime.

According to City AM (27 August), the Glasgow club are attracting takeover interest from American investors who value the club at around £150million.

Rangers failure to qualify for the Champions League group stage has seen them miss out on up to £40million in revenue.

Additionally, Celtic’s £25million record sale of Danish midfielder Matt O’Riley to Brighton has left Rangers even further behind the current champions from a financial perspective.

Rangers subject to American takeover interest

Philippe Clement has zero wins from five attempts in the Old Firm derby following their heavy 3-0 defeat to Celtic on Sunday (September 1).

Japanese duo Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi put the home side 2-0 ahead by half-time, with captain Callum McGregor sealing the victory with a close-range finish in the 75th minute.

In stark contrast, title-winning boss Steven Gerrard won eight of his 13 matches in charge against the Hoops.

Upon returning to Ibrox after the defeat to their Old Firm rivals, the squad was greeted by a group of angry fans shouting expletives, calling them “losers” and “embarrassments.”
