‘A bit raw’ – Tottenham star criticised for wild international performance

Many Tottenham Hotspur stars are away on international duty right now, but one player in particular has been singled out for some criticism by a pundit in his country.

Brennan Johnson told to improve one aspect of his game

Of all the players on international duty, Brennan Johnson is one of the most well-established for his country, with 31 caps to his name for Wales already (Transfermarkt).

The Tottenham winger was in action for Wales once more on Friday evening, playing in the Nations League qualifier against Turkey.

The game ended 0-0, despite Wales playing for half an hour with a one-man advantage on Turkey, who had Baris Alper Yilmaz sent off.

Sadly, Johnson has been earmarked as one player who was particularly wasteful in that encounter, and Welsh icon Helen Ward has urged him to do better.

Speaking to BBC Radio Wales, Ward said: “Brennan Johnson has to be a bit more cultured with his crossing, he’s blasted that across the face of goal. He’s got bundles of talent, but he looks a bit raw tonight.”

The stats don’t lie

Unfortunately, Ward has a point. As per Sofascore, Johnson had four crossing attempts and played one long ball, but none of them found their targets. On top of that, he was also dispossessed 11 times throughout the game.

Johnson’s delivery and decision-making have been criticised at Spurs, too, with many bemoaning his poor finishing and misplaced crosses.
