Bryan King expects Dominic Solanke and Micky van de Ven to have a say on whether they are ready to feature for Tottenham against Arsenal on Sunday (15 September).
The ex-Spurs scout claims Ange Postecoglou’s side could struggle against the Gunners without the duo.
while van de Ven was absent for the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday (1 September).
As reported by the Standard (2 September), Postecoglou is confident of having at least two of Solanke, Richarlison and van de Ven available for the North London derby.
And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has shared how a decision might be made.
The decision will be on Solanke and van de Ven as well,” King said.
They will be asked if they feel like they are ready to play. As was the case in my day, you would be asked. If you said yes, no one wanted to hear anything about any problems.
If you decide to play, and things don’t go the way you think that they’re going to go, don’t start blaming it on the injury. Everything has got to be right, and the player will then decide whether he can play or not.
These are two players they really need. I think they’ll find it difficult if they’re not involved.”
It has not been the best of starts to the season for Postecoglou’s side. However, three points against their North London rivals could lift the mood around the club.
Therefore, there will be a lot of nervous eyes on the teamsheet when it is released next Sunday.
If Solanke and van de Ven both play, Spurs will feel confident of getting a result. However, if one, or even worse both, of the players miss out, things will be difficult for Postecoglou’s side.
