GALATASARAY TARGETING MOVE FOR ARSENAL MIDFIELDER JORGINHO AHEAD OF TURKEY TRANSFER DEADLINE. Galatasaray want to sign Arsenal midfielder Jorginho before the Turkish transfer window closes on Friday, according to the Sun.
The 24-time Super Lig winners were initially keen on Manchester United star Casemiro, but the second highest-paid player in the Premier League (with his £375,000-per-week deal only behind Kevin De Bruyne) has rejected them, and they have moved to other targets.
Jorginho has yet to make an appearance for Arsenal this term, with Declan Rice and Thomas Partey currently ahead of him in the pecking order of manager Mikel Arteta, while the arrival of Mikel Merino could see him play less going forward. However, the North London club see the 32-year-old as crucial to their strength in depth in the middle of the park and will reject any offers for him from Gala or any other club.
Arsenal will be without Rice for the game against Tottenham Hotspur on September 15 due to the controversial red card he picked up against Brighton & Hove Albion, while Merino is yet to make his debut due to an injury set to keep him out for weeks.
As a result, the services on Jorginho are expected for the North London derby, and the Gunners are also looking to count on his experience in their bid to challenge on all fronts this term.
Arteta loves what the Italian star offers on and off the field, and the Spaniard approved a new deal for him just a couple of months ago.
The Gunners have no plans to sell or loan out any player after the transfer window in England and other major European countries closed on August 30, and Jorginho will be remaining at Arsenal until at least next summer.
