SHOCKING NEWS;Daniel Farke confirm the departure of Eddie Gray

Eddie Gray has revealed that Ange Postecoglou was the reason Archie Gray chose Tottenham when leaving Leeds United.

The midfielder was one of the Whites’ first sales of the transfer window and was arguably one of the most important.

The midfielder has since made his Premier League debut for the club and starred in Spurs’ pre-season.

Speaking to the Daily Record (6 September) Gray revealed that there was more than just Tottenham vying for the transfer of the youngster but said Postecoglou was a big selling point.

“He’s going to be working under a terrific manager. He likes the manager, he loves the manager,” Gray shared.

“There were a few teams after him, but I think meeting the manager and how he conducted himself swung it for Archie. I think he’ll help Archie and I think he’ll do very well at Spurs.”

Archie Gray might have saved the 2024/25 Leeds United season

Fans were understandably outraged by the sale of Gray so early into the summer transfer window but, despite their disappointment, it was a necessary evil that had to occur.

The Whites needed a ‘big sale’ to abide by the EFL’s Profit and Sustainability rules and many expected Crysencio Summerville to be the one moved on.

However, despite the 18-year-old only having one senior season under his belt, it was Gray who exited Elland Road to appease PSR fears with Summerville departing later in the window.

Although at the time it didn’t feel like it made much sense, it has since been shared that Gray’s sale was “crucial” for Leeds to abide by the EFL’s PSR [The Athletic, 3 September].

Indeed, others also exited Elland Road at a later date and many players such as Ao Tanaka and Largie Ramazani were brought in to replace those who left.

However, despite not knowing it at the time, without Gray, the Whites could have suffered severe punishment for not abiding by PSR.
