Celtic fans unhappy with Todd Cantwell’s controversial comment

It would be an understatement to say that Todd Cantwell was not a popular figure amongst Celtic fans during his time at Ibrox. Whether that be due to his social media activity or his interactions with club legend, Chris Sutton. The Englishman’s time with the Rangers came to an end this summer though, as he moved to Blackburn Rovers.

The transfer fee is believed to have been around €600,000. If the reported figure is indeed accurate then that’s a bit of a head-scratcher, to be honest. Cantwell is 26 years of age and above average for the Rangers, although he never managed to rise to the occasion against Celtic.

Cantwell never endeared himself to the Celtic fans while he was a Rangers player. And that does not seem to be changing anytime soon, despite moving to Blackburn Rovers.

Cantwell appeared to refer to Celtic as ‘the others’ while talking to the media recently. At least most people assume that he was referring to the Hoops. As reported by Sky Sports, the former Rangers midfielder said:

“Obviously during my time we didn’t get the best of ‘the others’ as much as we’d have liked to but we were building in the right direction.”

It goes without saying that Celtic fans were not particularly impressed with Cantwell’s comment. And they let it be known on social media.

Let’s see how Cantwell’s time at Blackburn Rovers goes. The former wonderkid, who once had a £50 million transfer value, is certainly running out of time to fulfil the potential he had shown early on in his career.

Of course, Celtic fans have a lot to look forward to. After the international break, they have a home game against Hearts before the return of Champions League football to Parkhead, as Brendan Rodgers’ side will take on Slovan Bratislava.

The hope is for the Hoops to compete for all three domestic titles this season, they missed out on the Scottish League Cup last year, and also show progress in Europe. To be honest, they have been handed somewhat of an easier set of Champions League fixtures compared to previous seasons.
