SAD NEWS:Jack Butland has been suspended from international duty today…
Rangers “plan” to use Danilo domestically to build up his fitness after he suffered a new injury setback, according to Stevie Clifford.
The Four Lads Had A Dream host reported via X on Thursday (5 September) that the Brazilian striker’s latest issue is not believed to be “big” as he is already back working in the gym during the international break.
Philippe Clement has not included the forward in his squad for the Europa League group stage as the Light Blues intend to help him get fitter domestically before using him in Europe this season.
Reports suggest that Danilo has undergone an operation in Holland already during the international break on his knee and will be sidelined for around a month [Chris Jack, 5 September].
How long will Rangers striker Danilo be injured for at Ibrox?
Few players in Scottish football have had a more frustrating last year or so than Danilo who has been plagued by injury issues that have limited his involvement on and off the pitch so far this season.
Many pundits have been left baffled by Clement’s decision to rarely use the Brazilian in the opening weeks of the campaign, particularly in Champions League qualifying, but this new setback could explain that decision.
The Light Blues don’t have loads of striking options available at the top end of the pitch and it will now be down to Hmaza Igamane to provide some genuine competition for Cyriel Dessers, particularly in the early stages of the Europa League.
Hopefully, Rangers will then take their time building up Danilo’s fitness domestically so that he is ready to get fully involved in proceedings after the winter break.
While there is very little anyone could have done to have stopped this happening at this stage of the season, it does show that the Gers should have potentially acted quicker to try and secure a new number nine before the transfer window slammed shut.
