CONFIRMED REPORT;Rangers announce the sack of Philip Clement few minutes ago due to
Philippe Clement’s record against Celtic could become a “huge problem” for Rangers chiefs, sources have told Football Insider.
The Belgian is still winless against the Light Blues’ Old Firm rivals in five games after losing 3-0 away from home on Sunday (1 September).
By contrast, title-winning boss Steven Gerrard won eight of his 13 matches in charge against the Hoops.
Sources say Clement’s record in the derby clashes is becoming problematic for Ibrox chiefs, who are otherwise fully behind the Belgian.
Rangers board concerned about Clement’s 0% Old Firm record
However, sources say Clement will find his position under scrutiny if his record doesn’t improve in Old Firm games and the gap doesn’t close to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers are already five points adrift of their Glasgow rivals after just four games.
The Light Blues were also dumped out of the Champions League at the first hurdle, losing on aggregate against Dynamo Kyiv in the third qualifying round.
Clement was handed a new contract with the Gers last month which runs until the summer of 2028.
He has won 33 of his 50 games since taking over from Michael Beale in October 2023.
In other news, Ianis Hagi responds to last-gasp offer to leave Rangers.
He boosted his profile with good performances for Romania at the European Championships but is out of favour with Rangers boss Philippe Clement.
The attacking midfielder hasn’t featured in any of Rangers’ first four games this season, but he is under contract until 2026.
Hagi is training with the club’s B team as his future is decided – with transfer windows still open across minor leagues in Europe and the Middle East.
