Rangers dealt new Ibrox blow as club reveal full stadium won’t be open for Dundee clash

Rangers WILL return to Ibrox in time for their Premier Sports Cup clash with Dundee. – but it won’t be a full stadium opening.

The Copland Stand will remain CLOSED for the quarter-final clash due to finishing touches on work being done. The Light Blues have been playing home matches at Hampden in the early part of the season but the thumping win over Ross County will be their last league outing in the south side with a return to Govan set for September 21.

A club statement read: “Rangers Football Club today confirms our Premier Sports Cup tie with Dundee on Saturday, 21 September, will be played at Ibrox Stadium. Excluding the Copland Stand, where final concourse and seating works are ongoing, all areas of our home will be open for this match. Season ticket holders from the Copland Stand will be offered an exclusive window to purchase seating elsewhere.”

Philippe Clement’s men moved to the national stadium for the start of the campaign due to the ongoing works at Ibrox. Chairman John Bennett previously set his ‘aspiration’ to return to Govan for the last game of September against Hibs in the Scottish Premiership. Record Sport then told last month that the Ross County clash could well be the last game at the national stadium with club chiefs pushing to reopen Ibrox for Dundee. And now that plan is set with the green light in place to return for the last eight showdown.
