James Tavernier clashes with heckling Rangers fan as captain escorted out of Ibrox by security
James Tavernier had to be escorted out of Ibrox by security staff after the Rangers captain was heckled by an enraged supporter.
A group of furious fans gathered outside the Govan ground in the wake of Sunday’s dismal 3-0 defeat at Celtic Park. Gers were bossed by their Old Firm rivals as the Hoops continued their derby dominance to motor five points clear at the top of the table.
Around 100 fans decided to vent their rage at Philippe Clement’s flops as they returned to Ibrox after the game. The players were met with jeers and boos as they stepped off the bus, clearly feeling the ire of the punters after yet another bruising loss to their bitter rivals.
Footage surfaced showing Clement being booed by fans as he was confronted by a small group of fans while making his way to the car park. Another video later emerged on social media, capturing a more aggressive incident where a fan took things too far by verbally abusing the entire Rangers squad as they exited a side door at Ibrox.
The raging man is seen slaughtering the players, calling them “embarrassing” before demanding, “Where’s the captain? Where are you Tav?”. As the long-serving skipper emerges, the fan launched into a tirade, telling Tavernier to “F off” and accusing him of being “nothing but a loser.”
Tavernier briefly responded before security intervened, pulling him away from the volatile situation. Despite being ushered away alongside his dejected teammates, the captain continued to react as the fan’s furious tirade persisted.
